Create Transfer Order from a Purchase Document
Overview
Stock bought overseas is normally received into an "on the water" location. This is an ordinary location, not an in-transit location. The stock then has to be transferred on to a real warehouse. The Create Transfer Order action copies the item lines of a purchase document to a new transfer order. The user only has to choose the final destination.
Key Components
- Create Transfer Order action, available on:
- Purchase Order
- Posted Purchase Receipt
- Posted Purchase Invoice
- Create Transfer Order dialog (page CreateTOFromPurchDoc_LAL_LINC), used to choose the locations and shipment date.
- Codeunit PurchDocToTransfer_LAL_LINC, which builds the transfer order.
Prerequisites
- A Transfer Order Nos. number series is set up in Inventory Setup.
- The purchase document has a Location Code. If the header has none, the location on the first copied line is used.
- The user has the PS_LAL_LINC permission set, which includes the codeunit and the dialog.
- A destination location exists. If an in-transit location is needed, set up a Transfer Route for the two locations (see the dialog section below).
Creating the Transfer Order
1. Start the action
- Open a purchase order, posted purchase receipt or posted purchase invoice.
- Choose Create Transfer Order in the Process category.
2. Line selection
Only lines that can be transferred are copied. A line is copied when it is:
- of type Item,
- for an item of type Inventory that is not Blocked, and
- for a Quantity other than zero.
The variant, descriptions, quantity and unit of measure are carried over. Any other line that has a number is skipped. After the transfer order is created, a message lists the skipped lines. If no line can be copied, the action stops with an error.
3. The Create Transfer Order dialog
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Transfer-from Code | Defaults to the location on the purchase document. |
| Transfer-to Code | The final location the items are transferred to. Required. |
| In-Transit Code | Filled in automatically when a transfer route exists for the two locations. Leave it blank to create a direct transfer. |
| Shipment Date | Defaults to the work date. |
Choosing Cancel creates nothing and does not use a number series entry.
4. Result
On OK the transfer order is created and opened. It has the following:
- External Document No. set to the number of the source purchase document.
- All non-container Logistics fields copied from the source document: Freighter, Trip, loading, estimated and actual departure and arrival dates, loading and arrival points, external container number, bill of lading number, freight agent code and gated-out date.
- The Container No. linked when the source document has one.
- Any Record Extension values copied from the source document.
Validation and Troubleshooting
| Message | Cause |
|---|---|
| There are no inventory item lines on … that can be copied to a transfer order. | The document has no non-blocked inventory item lines with a quantity. |
| A transfer-from location cannot be determined… | Neither the header nor the lines have a location code. |
| Transfer order … was already created from … | A transfer order with the same External Document No. exists. Confirm to create another. |
| Transfer Order Nos. must have a value | Set up the number series in Inventory Setup. |
